A thin veneer

Walt Mueller, one of my online mentors, made a profound statement about a celebrity/author that shook my core! Paraphrased, he writes, 'she is promoting a faith that is nothing more or less than the world with a thin veneer of Jesus-talk.' Like I said, it shook my very core! Do I do that? Coat my "faith" with a shiny covering of empty Jesus-talk or do I live an authentic faith based on a committed relationship that penetrates my whole being? What is left when life chips away at me, solid devotion to Christ or a cheap imitation? It's a question we all need to ask, but especially those who shepherd a young flock.
I earnestly pray that God would search me and reveal any substitutions. Solid and lasting, that's my prayer.

Serving Together

Rob and I had the great joy of serving along side our youngest son at Camp Eagle during Camp Tallowood 09. We give God all glory for the things He accomplished this past week. What a great blessing it is to see your children give their all for their Lord! Alex served tirelessly, loving the students in both his cabin and the tribe of Dan. We had the privilege of seeing several of our students accept Christ as their Savior and I watched my group of girls move from casual friendship to a sisterhood in Christ.I am overcome with gratitude for the opportunity to participate in His amazing work. He is enough!

Birthday fun!

My kids and husband made my birthday so special. A wonderful dinner, lots of goodies and a flower cake! I almost got the delivery guy arrested though when he delivered the flowers. I thought he was trying to break into the house so I called the constable. It was truly a comedy of errors and I doubt if that guy will ever be the same! The day was crazy with the opening of Super kids camp and preparing for hurricane Edouard which never really landed. Thanks everyone for thinking of me! 54 and getting younger!

Look what God made!

Thanks, Cousin Alan, for not "neglecting your gifts" and for capturing this breathtaking view of the Rockies. Speaking of gifts, my younger friend, Jacob, can preach! I'm still "chewing" on the word he gave last Sunday. He recounted his demanding experience of climbing Pike's Peak and his growing frustration as a 45 year old passed him by several times. Jacob shared God's word to him when he finally reached the top: 'You think the 45 year old has accomplished something? Look out and see what I created! Now that's an accomplishment!' He reminded us that God isn't impressed with our accomplishments, but is more concerned with our desire to have relationship with Him as well as glorify Him. I'm always struggling with this desire to accomplish something of importance. What a word of wisdom for me.

My young friends are teaching me everyday. They bring refreshing insight as I journey with my Lord. My encouragement to you today......
